Third Time Charms for ‘Lewis Carroll Through Two Lenses’

For the third year in a row, USC graduate student Andrew Woodham took first prize in the USC Libraries Wonderland Award competition. His submission this year, “Lewis Carroll Through Two Lenses” is a photographic collage and meditation on the complex life and career of Charles Dodgson, the author more commonly known as Lewis Carroll. USC Libraries Acquire Rare Lewis Carroll Letter

The USC Libraries acquired a rare 3-page letter from author Lewis Carroll at a March 19 auction in London. The USC Libraries bid anonymously to surprise longtime supporters and founders of the libraries' Cassady Lewis Caroll Collection, Dr. George Cassady and his wife Linda. Dean Catherine unveiled the letter before an audience of 350 students at last night's Wonderland Unbound Visions and Voices event. Keep reading for more details.

Students from USC and other eligible universities have submitted 49 entries in the Tenth-Annual USC Libraries Wonderland Award competition. We will announce the winners at an award reception this Thursday, April 17. Join us in the Friends of the USC Libraries Lecture Hall (DML 240) at 7:00 p.m. to browse through the imaginative submissions and congratulate the winners. Then stay for Wonderland Unbound, a massive multimedia installation that will transform the facade of Doheny Library through the art of projection mapping and digital animation. Sneak Peek at ‘Wonderland Unbound’

On Thursday, April 17, the facade of USC's Doheny Memorial Library will be transformed for Wonderland Unbound, a special Visions & Voices event commemorating the tenth anniversary of the USC Libraries Wonderland Award. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, The Hunting of the Snark, and rare materials from the USC Libraries' Special Collections will come alive through the magic of projection mapping and digital animation. Watch this brief preview (no sound), and then RVSP online. The event begins at 8:00 p.m. in front of Doheny Library.

On Saturday, November 2, Lewis Carroll scholars and admirers will assemble inside USC's Doheny Memorial Library for a daylong exploration of how videogame designers, scientists, artists, graphic novelists—and USC students—have transformed the world of Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll. The USC Libraries are hosting Lewis Carroll Outsiders, the fall 2013 meeting of the Lewis Carroll Society of North America, to mark the tenth anniversary of the USC Libraries Wonderland Award. Puzzling through Lewis Carroll’s Polymathic Genius

USC graduate student Andrew Woodham took first prize in the ninth-annual USC Libraries Wonderland Award competition for “A Reflection on Lewis Carroll.” Judges chose the 3-foot by 4-foot 64-word crossword puzzle from a field of 42 imaginative submissions by students from USC and other participating institutions. Woodham, a Ph.D. candidate at the Keck School of Medicine at USC, accepted the award at a ceremony in Doheny Memorial Library on Friday, April 5. His win marks the first time in Wonderland history that one student has earned the top prize in two consecutive years. Keep reading to learn more about Wonderland Award and the April 5 ceremony.
