Film Scores From Dimitri Tiomkin Collection Inspired Closing Ceremony Music at Sochi

On Sunday, the world heard orchestral music derived from film scores in the USC Libraries' collections. The 2014 Winter Olympics Closing Ceremonies in Sochi, Russia, opened with twelve minutes of music by Russian-born composer Dimitri Tiomkin, who scored such films as High Noon, The Alamo, and It's A Wonderful Life. Tiomkin's music manuscripts—along with handwritten sketches and other rare materials—are housed in USC's Cinematic Arts Library, and orchestrator Patrick Russ consulted Tiomkin's original scores prior to arranging the music for the Sochi show.

Music Librarian Joins LitReactor Magazine as Libraries and Research Columnist

The USC Libraries' Stephanie Bonjack has joined LitReactor Magazinean online publication targeted to aspiring writers, as its libraries and research columnist. In her first contribution, Bonjack provides an overview of online research tools available to writers. Bonjack is the head of USC's Music Library.

Extended Hours for Final Exams at Several Library Locations

Music Library’s Stephanie Bonjack to Oversee Programming at Music Library Association Annual Meeting

The Music Library Association recently appointed Stephanie Bonjack, head of USC's Music Library, as chair of the program committee for the association's 2013 annual meeting. Reporting directly to the Music Library Association board, Bonjack is responsible for crafting three full days of compelling, engaging programming at the conference, to be held February 27 to March 3 in San Jose, California.

Unlock foursquare Specials at the USC Libraries

From now through the end of April, the USC Libraries are offering foursquare specials that encourage USC students to engage with the libraries through the location-based social network.
