Next Tuesday and Wednesday, May 1 and 2, the USC Libraries host the Outstanding Academic Papers by Students (OAPS) 2012 annual meeting. The conference includes discussions among representatives of participating universities, a guided tour of the USC Libraries special collections, and visits to Los Angeles-area cultural and educational institutions.

OAPS is a collaborative, international program by academic research libraries to encourage, recognize, and preserve excellence in student scholarship. In 2010, USC became the first North American university to participate when the USC Libraries partnered with the USC School of Social Work to produce a collection of outstanding social work papers. In 2011, the USC Libraries showcased work by students from the USC Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences.

This year's collection, which will soon be posted to Libwire, consists of papers submitted through the USC Undergraduate Writers Conference and selected by a team of faculty, librarians, and student editors.

The OAPS annual meeting is the third international conference hosted by the USC Libraries this academic year. Previously, the USC Libraries welcomed German exile scholars for the fifth biennial conference of the International Feuchtwanger Society in September, and in November hosted the Pacific Rim Digital Library Alliance (PRDLA) annual meeting.
